Dear Friends,

Expansive Thinking

Our thoughts, attitudes, and beliefs play an important role in the lives that we live. “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” (Proverbs 23:7 (KJV)) “According to your faith be it unto you” (Matt. 9:29 (KJV)). Jesus said, “……Go, it shall be done for you as you have believed.” (Matt. 8:13 (NAS)) The Bible has much to say about the events of our lives being shaped by our thoughts, attitudes, faith and beliefs. Our thinking does more to shape our world than we may realize.

Many of us were taught that things “just happened” and that we were to learn skills to deal with whatever life brought our way. Some things may seem outside our control but we still have a choice about our attitude and how we will deal with it. Much is currently being written on this subject both from a spiritual and a psychological viewpoint.

How do we release old negative thoughts that have created negative circumstances in our lives? In Philippians 4:8: “Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, if there be any praise, think only on these things.” We would do well to direct our thoughts onto positive things.

That which we give our attention to grows stronger in our lives. Thoughts held in mind produce after their kind. Scientists tell us that the human mind cannot hold more than one thought at a time. When we are thinking about things that are honest, pure, true, just, ETC. our minds cannot hold negative thoughts. We out-picture into our lives that which we think about the most.

When we want to release negative thinking that has created negative circumstances in our lives, we replace it with positive thinking or affirmations. One of my favorite affirmations for general use is from a Unity Classic book by Rev. Charles Roth entitled, A New Way of Thinking. “The Spirit of the Lord goes before me making my way easy, joyous and successful. I am grateful!

We are co-creators, with God, for our lives. We have the power to make changes through our thinking.

Rich Blessings,
Rev. Janie
